Lantica Pictures announces the completion of Ladrones, shot in the Dominican Republic
Ladrones is the second Dominican film with international distribution through Lantica Media’s partnership with Pantelion Films
Lantica Media announced the completion of principal photography and the first stage of editing of Ladrones, an action-packed comedy which marks the company’s second Dominican-shot film with international distribution through Pantelion Films.
The film was shot entirely in the Dominican Republic, taking advantage of the country’s diverse filming locations, as well as the soundstages and other production facilities at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, a state-of-the-art facility owned by Lantica Media and managed by the Pinewood Studios Group.
Ladrones tells the story of a team of ordinary ranch folk, led by two infamous robbers, who band together to steal back their land grants from a shrewd business woman who has hidden the documents in her mansion on a resort island. Its prequel, Ladrón que Roba a Ladrón, was released in 2007 by Lionsgate. At the time, it had the highest opening weekend gross for a Spanish language film in the United States.
The film was directed by Joe Menéndez, who also directed the first installment, and will star Mexican actors Fernando Colunga, Eduardo Yañez, Cristina Rodlo and Jessica Lindsey, as well as Dominican stars Frank Perozo, Evelyna Rodríguez and Nashla Bogaert. Alfonso Rodríguez produced the film for Lantica Pictures, with Jim McNamara and Ben Odell from Panamax. Antonio Gennari and Paul Presburger served as Executive Producers.
Antonio Gennari, CEO of Lantica Media said:
“This second project marks the strengthening of our partnership with Pantelion Films, which guarantees Dominican content and filmmakers a unique opportunity to successfully reach global audiences through our partners unique market positioning in the U.S. and LATAM. This represents a great achievement for the Dominican film industry and strengthens its sustainability and competitiveness in the long term.”
James McNamara, Chairman of Pantelion added,
“We couldn’t be more pleased with our expanding relationship with Lantica Media. Since launching Pantelion, we wanted to produce a sequel to Lionsgate’s Ladron Que Roba a Ladron. Shooting in the Dominican Republic under our deal with Lantica Media has allowed us to make a bigger, more action-packed movie than the first Ladrón, with a huge international cast. We have high hopes for this movie."
