Reporting to: Site Supervisor

Job responsibilities:

Through direct experience of hands on craft skills, to efficiently assist in the practice of skilled garden maintenance as directed by line management.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To follow the directives of the management plan and understand and encourage, where possible and appropriate, the diversity of wildlife within the garden to ensure optimum care of the garden’s exceptional wild flora and fauna.
  • Seasonal maintenance of flower, shrub, woodland gardens, with specialised collections including trees, hedges, shrubs, herbaceous plants and annuals.
  • To develop a working knowledge and broad familiarity with the majority of plants within the garden.
  • Weed control.
  • Maintenance of herbaceous plantings, staking, dead heading, dividing etc.
  • Propagation, plant production and maintenance under glass.
  • Formative, seasonal and rejuvenate pruning of deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, climbers and hedges.
  • Use and maintenance of garden machinery including mowers, strimmer’s, tractor and trailers.
  • Turf maintenance.
  • Pest and disease control and appropriate, timely and safe use of pesticides, as directed.
  • Optimum use of composting systems.
  • Assistance to other Group garden staff.
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate by Management.
  • Observe the studio regulations at all times.
  • Observe and comply with Company Health and Safety policy and practices.

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Good standard of Secondary education. 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics desirable.
  • An enthusiasm for plants and gardening.
  • Customer service driven with experience of dealing with members of the public.
  • Gardening knowledge, however on the job training will be provided.
  • Shows initiative and capable of working without supervision. Prepared to take responsibility for tasks.
  • Highly organised.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong team player and orientation towards teamwork.
  • To treat clients with courtesy and to encourage their interest in the garden.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety. (Health and Safety training will be provided including Manual Handling, Working at Heights, Steps and Ladders.)

Person Specification:

Personality:  Reliable, honest and trustworthy. Able to interact with clients and staffs of all levels. Responsible attitude, dependable and punctual.Keen to develop their own skills and be a key team player.

Personal Situation:  Able to commute reliably to the office bases, Pinewood Studios and Shepperton Studios.

Literacy and Numeracy: Good standard of Secondary education. 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics desirable.

Business Skills: Must be confident and professional when dealing with customers.
