Foley & ADR

Foley’s purpose is to either complement or replace sound recorded on set with new sound elements recorded in a more controlled environment. Foley at Pinewood Post is recorded for film, television, video games and audio books.

ADR; an acronym for Automated Dialogue Replacement, the process by which dialogue recorded on-set is replaced after the event in more controlled studio conditions.

Foley

Foley; whilst the process takes its name from Jack Foley, a luminary from Hollywood’s golden past, it still plays a vital role in contemporary Sound Post. Its purpose is to either complement or replace sound recorded on set with new sound elements recorded in a more controlled environment.

It remains a resolutely human process with synchronous footsteps, movements and impacts performed by dedicated Foley artists and recorded on dedicated stages with a wide ranges of props and surfaces.

Naturally we offer a full Sound Editorial and fitting service. We have a dedicated Foley facility on site, it is based on the industry standard ProTools HD platform in order to deliver the most streamlined of service, and networked via secure LAN connectivity and can support any file format, sample rate and bit depth.

ADR

ADR; an acronym for Automated Dialogue Replacement, the process by which dialogue recorded on-set is replaced after the event in more controlled studio conditions. Depending on genre and on-set conditions up to 90% of a titles dialogue may be replaced in this way.

Most often ADR sessions are run with actor, director and recording engineer working in the same facility, though actor availability sometimes dictates that this process takes place in two or more facilities simultaneously – often in different countries. We routinely provide such remote collaboration services using Source Connect or ISDN.

We have two ADR facilities based on our lots here in the UK.

  • Theatre 2 (Shepperton) - Foley and ADR for Film, Television, Video Games and Audiobooks.
  • Theatre 6 (Pinewood) - ADR for Film, Television, Video Games and Audiobooks

In order to deliver the most streamlined of service all our facilities are based on the industry standard ProTools HD platform. They are networked via secure LAN connectivity and can support any file format, sample rate and bit depth.
