Pinewood's Archive, Preservation and Restoration facility recently carried out work on restoring the never released Rolling Stone's 65 minute documentary 'The Rolling Stone's Charlie is My Darling - Ireland 1965'.
Capturing the Rolling Stones' primal energy, hysterical fans and close-knit friendship from 1965, this newly created 2012 version of the film and restored versions of the original film will be brought out on DVD as part of ABKCO's ongoing restoration of the Stones' early archives, falling alongside the bands 50th anniversary and upcoming tour dates this year.
The original never-before-seen documentary filmed by Peter Whitehead follows the band as they tour Ireland just after "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" reached number 1 on the charts. Footage shows the band dashing from trains to cabs, to cramped basement dressing rooms; doing interviews and being tackled on stage by screaming fans.
The footage has been cleaned up and made into a new, longer 65 minute film, with 60 percent new footage and six complete songs (including "The Last Time," "Satisfaction" and "Time Is On My Side") that represents the earliest known professionally shot concert footage of the Rolling Stones, with remixed sound.
After taking eight months to synch up the often unlabeled soundtrack with the live performances, Director of the new 2012 version Mick Gochanour said "We did some pretty serious science on this" and "we realized during the middle that we had six complete performances".
The film was restored and re-mastered at Pinewood Studios' Archive, Preservation and Restoration Facility which can bridge traditional negative film or print up to 4k Digital Data. Through Pinewoods MTC, pictures can be prepared for editorial including resolution, conforming, mastering and grading; with the Pinewood Data Centre offering the perfect security and management solution.
