PINEWOOD TORONTO STUDIOS ANNUAL SUMMER BBQ

1 August 2017

Pinewood Toronto Studios hosted its Annual Summer BBQ on 27th July to thank clients, partners and friends who work with the studios throughout the year.

The event is always an opportunity to network with the local filmmaking community and celebrate another busy year for production in Toronto.

President of Pinewood Toronto Studios, Blake Steels said that the BBQ offered an opportunity to celebrate the success of many of the projects filmed on the lot, including Suicide Squad which smashed the box office and Downsizing which is opening the Venice Film Festival in August.

He talked of how the trailer for IT broke records for the most online views in a single day and how everyone eagerly awaits Star Trek: Discovery which will be on TV screens in September.

Chairman, Paul Bronfman highlighted how Toronto is now firmly established as a leading global production hub for both TV and film production, and how Ontario has had a record breaking year with investment of nearly $1.7bn.  He expressed his pride in the role Pinewood Toronto Studios has played in this success and paid tribute to clients, both domestic and international. Paul ended his remarks by paying tribute to his Pinewood team who support productions and tenants on a day-to-day basis throughout the year.

The studios are enthusiastic supporters of the Canadian Academy, the Canadian Film Center and TIFF. Pinewood Toronto is also participating in the Canada 150 celebrations this year with Telefilm, and many of the recipients from the Talent Fund attended the BBQ, including writer/directors Molly McGlynn and Aram Collier and producers Matt Code, Kristy Neville and Betty Xie.
