Announcing Malaysia's new 30% production incentive

15 March 2012

Film producers using Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios can access Malaysia’s new 30% production incentive

Films produced or filmed in Malaysia will receive a rebate of 30% of the cost of production.

“For every RM5 million spent, there will be a rebate of 30% to the film maker. Local film makers who spend RM2.5 million will also be able to enjoy the 30% return,” confirmed Information Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

Alongside the development of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, a state of the art facility opening in Spring 2013, this competitive film incentives framework greatly strengthens Malaysia’s offering to foreign and local filmmakers. The initiative was proposed by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and approved at the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) meeting last week.
