After shooting in Scotland, Belgium and Sweden, the production, Filth, moved to the centre of Hamburg last weekend. The co-production between Steel Mill Pictures and Egoli Tossell Film is financed by Maven Pictures, Film House Germany, Film | Vast and Creative Scottland, and is working in cooperation with Pinewood Studio Berlin Film Services.
Based on the bestselling novel, "Filth" by cult author Irvine Welsh ("Trainspotting"), directed and written by Jon S. Baird, follows Bruce Robertson, a bigoted and corrupt policeman, who is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox, Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin.
The superb cast is made up of BAFTA-winner James McAvoy ("Atonement," "The Last King of Scotland", "X-Men: First Class," "The Last Station") in the lead role of Bruce Robertson, Jamie Bell as Ray Lennox ("Billy Elliot - I Will Dance", "Hallam Foe", "The Eagle of the Ninth Legion"), Shauna MacDonald ("The Descent 1 & 2"), Eddie Marsan ("Happy-Go-Lucky," "Sherlock Holmes"), John Sessions ("The Iron Lady," "The Last Station"), Jim Broadbent ("The Iron Lady", "Moulin Rouge" "Bridget Jones"), Imogen Poots ("V for Vendetta," "Jane Eyre", "Fright Night"), Gary Lewis ("Billy Elliot - I Will Dance," "Gangs of New York," "Ned"), Brian McCardie ("The Damned United," "Speed 2", "Rob Roy") and Martin Compston ('Sweet Sixteen', 'The Damned United ").
The soundtrack of Filth will include Meatloaf, Billy Joel, Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Bolton, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple to be heard, Sheila B. Devotion, Renato and Reene, Brightman / Bocelli and New Seekers. Above all, David Soul - Irvine Welshs idol, famous from Starsky & Hutch - who sings in the film's inevitable classic "Silver Lady".
Lionsgate will release Filth in the UK, Ascot Elite Film in Germany.
