Case Study:

Guinness World Records Smashed

Filmed at Pinewood Studios on S Stage (March 2009)

Following a successful pilot filmed in Teddington Studio One, Sky 1 commissioned a series of 10 shows and 1 Christmas Special of Guinness World Records Smashed.

Fronted by Steve Jones and Connie Huq, Outline’s aim was to refresh the Guinness World Records format and bring record breaking to a new audience.

Creating a space where large scale record attempts could be attempted in front of a live audience – including BMX stunts, cheerleading and car rolling – was a huge challenge for the production.

Pinewood offered the ideal solution – utilising S stage (19,140sqft with an audience capacity of 2000), production offices, dressing rooms, art departments, wardrobe, makeup, parking and post production for the length of the run, Outline were able meet all editorial requirements whilst keeping within budget constraints. A studio style shiny black floor was laid and a full lighting grid was hung from existing runway beams. A large HD OB truck was parked to the rear and cabled through to the stage. GWRS also had a focus on green credentials; they wanted to create a huge show with minimal environmental impact. Pinewood worked with the production to provide recycling facilities and advice on travel plans to achieve this. GWRS had an audience of 300 that were required to log in and sign a release form in order to be involved in the record attempts. Pinewood supplied a marquee and a complete audience handling solution. Applause Store made use of Pinewood’s FOC Audience Club, which has over 12,000 members to supply the perfect audience.

I believe that Pinewood Studios offer a better service and environment than any other studio I have worked in.
