Pinewood Studios Group History

Over the years the Pinewood Studios Group has accommodated some of the most spectacular moments, memorable stars & ambitious sets on screen; James Bond, Jason Bourne, Batman, Lara Croft and Superman have all walked our corridors, while our stages and back-lots have become Greek fishing villages, Venetian palazzos, ice palaces, Cambodian tombs, space ships and Paris Opera Houses.

In February 2000, Pinewood Studios was purchased from Rank by a management team jointly led by Michael Grade and Ivan Dunleavy and backed by 3i. Pinewood Studios then purchased Shepperton Studios in February 2001. Together these studios have a combined credit list of almost 1500 movies in 70 years. In June 2000, Pinewood commenced conversion of J and K film stages into two high tech, dedicated television studios. Since then Pinewood Television has attracted a number of successful productions such as My Family, Weakest Link, The IT Crowd and Dragon's Den.

Pinewood Shepperton successfully floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2004. For further information on our floatation please refer to the Investor Relations section of this site.

While we are very proud of our past, we have always been focused on the future. Our underwater stage opened for business in March 2005, our new entrance at Pinewood was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in November 2007 and our blueprint for one of the biggest media villages in Europe is in progress. With our Project Pinewood in the pipeline, we are hoping to create a living working media community, set within a collage of permanent film and TV locations.

In April 2005 Pinewood Shepperton acquired Teddington Studios and now operates as the Pinewood Studios Group. As well as the former studios of Thames Televison, Teddington Studios have recently hosted shows such as The Green Green Grass, Harry Hill's TV Burp, Not Going Out and After You've Gone.

Quote

“From the moment I entered Shepperton, I knew the place was special. Anywhere that had had within its walls Carol Reed directing Orson Welles in ‘The Third Man’ (1949), was going to mean a great deal to me.”
